I own a small restaurant and we basically do weekly specials. We’re only open Thursday-Sunday, and if we run out of something for the day, then that’s it. Typically, we end up running out of everything before the end of the night. We don’t take reservations but we post on social media when we are done for the day.
It keeps people interested because it’s more of a unique and exclusive dining experience that they can’t get elsewhere. Typically we have 4 hors d’œuvres to choose from, varying from different dips and spreads for bread, seasonal deviled eggs, falafel or veggie burger sliders on sprouted whole wheat buns or baby baked potatoes with whatever our rotating pesto is. Sometimes they’re more traditional with different herbs such as basil, parsley or cilantro. I also like to throw in an avocado pesto and an olive pesto.
The dips rotate: we do a lemon thyme whipped ricotta spread, roasted eggplant spread, avocado hummus, pimento cheese dips, and so on. They’re all served with a baguette.
We’re also known for our desserts. There are far too many to list but some interesting examples are watermelon granita stuffed limes, homemade peanut butter banana ice cream, pumpkin pie tartlet with pecan crust, and chocomole pudding with fruit for dipping. Everything changes based on the season.
We also offer tropical and Cuban rice bowls along with chickpea curry dishes to have something a little more substantial. We typically have one of these at a time.
I came into this business pretty much by accident. I’d experiment with some really random things and serve them to my friends. One day one of them suggested I start selling my meals. It started as a farmer’s market venture and only grew from there.
I rented a small space with a little kitchen. Once I had a real business going, I needed some supplies, specifically a Cuisinart food processor. I did some research to see what would enhance this purchase. It turned out that if I had more than one work bowl I’d be in better shape in terms of how much I could make. I definitely didn’t want to run out within an hour of getting started.
I visited KitchenWorksUSA at my friend’s suggestion and ordered the Cuisinart DLC-8 4-piece Tritan Bowl Kit part. This allowed me to make a few batches at a time to have on hand so I’d at least have a decent amount of time to keep things going.
My business has grown like crazy and the fact that we run out of things regularly keeps people coming back to try it the next time. I often have a long line of people coming to eat. I’m able to contribute so much to my community and it’s all because of my Cuisinart food processor.
